Please wait...With the dramatic fall in the price of technology over the past several years, PACS Systems and other medical imaging solutions that were once available only to major university medical centers and large, well-funded private hospitals are now affordable for smaller private practices and public clinics. One of the safest medical imaging solutions available, today's PACS System allows a level of flexibility and economy that was unimaginable only ten years ago.
Like the more familiar ".jpg," ".gif," and ".png," "DICOM" is an image file format, and a DICOM monitor is essentially a high-resolution digital monitor that is networked to a PACS employing any one of a number of software applications known as DICOM viewers. Fortunately, as the associated technology has matured, the costs associated with the use of a DICOM monitor has fallen to the point that it is practical for use by the independent medical or dental practice.
Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine is a file format similar to ".jpg" or ".png," except that it offers the type of high resolution and flexibility required for the digitization of medical images produced by x-ray, CT, mammography and other modalities.
